For travelers upgrading from shared dorm-style, I’m sure these shacks seem pretty decent but for anyone else we’d recommend avoiding staying here. Several Terlingua locals commented about the sketchiness of the night cabins and the business practices. For the benefit for those who don’t read all the find-print, here are some of their more sketchy policies you should be aware of: Don’t call them after 7p as they charge for after-hours service $32 cleaning fee seems excessive given size of the shacks $250 cancellation fee We ended up staying in the much better-run motel down the road and had a great trip. Upon closer review, these limitations are described in the rental agreement fine-print. We offered to pay for one night, however, the owners were not going to budge. Unfortunately the owners were rudely unwilling to accommodate us other than offering to move us closer to the bathroom for one of our planned three nights. These limitations are not well described on the website. We were traveling with an elderly disabled man who could not walk by himself to the shared bath. The shared bathroom is down an uneven, dark dirt path making a midnight trip dangerous. I will add that a very large person would not likely be comfortable here.…īuyer beware! The “sleeper” rooms are not more than small storage shacks barely large enough to fit a bed. It was so cozy and all the guests were so friendly and welcoming and considerate. Terlingua House provides an ideal location to explore the landscapes and recreational opportunities in the spectacular Big Bend region of. We didn’t use the pool that is available at the Terlingua Ranch to TNC guests, but we met friends in Lajitas to use their pool. Terlingua House is an adobe-style property with 4 separate buildings located 2 miles west of Terlingua, between Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park. There’s a fire pit area with chairs and you have your own 2 Adirondack chairs to put out in the front or back to Star gaze or watch the sunrise or sunset. You are only 15-20 minutes from Big Bend National Park or the Terlingua Ghost Town with the Starlight and the old jail and a cantina. No tv, but this isn’t a place to stay inside. There’s also 2 grills and a slow cooker and microwave in the shared area. Or you can you can use the 4 person table in a shared area and enjoy both east and west beautiful views and a breeze. You have covered parking right next to your cabin with a little table and chairs for meals. If you are a camper and hiker, this is the place for you. The bathrooms and showers are shared, but they were immaculate and we never waited for anything. You have a Keurig coffee pot and a little fridge. This place is great if you like simple living.
